I would like to get back into bowhunting again, only this time I'd like to get into more tradtional bowhunting. I used to have a Onieda Blackhawk, which was about the closest thing to a recurve as you can get, without getting one. I would like to try a long bow this time around. Anyway, how many here shoot with either a recurve or long bow?

I use a recurve now and have for the last 5 years. Something to get use to for sure. Prior to using the recurve I did use an onieda and they are worlds apart. Effective range, speed, holding weight, etc.
My suggestion is to try out both and base your decision on what you like to shoot versus what you should shoot.
Good luck!

I have both recurve and longbow. Longbows are usually lighter to carry and are easier as a point and shoot bow. Recurves can store more energy, usually are more efficient and easier to maneuver. Stacking (fast build up of poundage) is usually less in a recurve. But it comes down to what you prefer and I second the shoot it and see which one you like best.

I shoot a 45# Sheakspeare recurve. I don't hunt with it but still enjoy shooting. What a dif from the compound. The kids laugh at the speed but wont shoot it in front of their buddies. They cann't hit crap with it. I never shot a long bow so I cann't help you there.

I just recently sold my PSE to get back to the basics. Still have a second hand custom recurve that i picked up a few years back. I think all of as kids one time or another started into the bow thing shooting recurves. Almost wish I had sold the training wheels a long time ago.
Haven't shot a long bow, but I'd bet it would be just as rewarding as a recurve.
